Chris and Larry did a great job on installing a new gas boiler, water heater and toilet. They were professional, pleasant and, most of all, very knowledgeable in what they do. Charles Krull & Son Plumbing was recommended to me and I would definitely recommend them to others.
Updated Review: Ironically, Chris’ blow off email with regard to my concerns claimed my system had no leaks. Because of that, I went to check my boiler room where there was weeping at the patch area. I had good luck finding help on Thumbtack and Angi to help fix the issue. I have spoken to a dozen trades folks about the fix since this visit only to get a dozen different opinions. No plumber I reached out to with those sources had an issue with soldering the pipe and one suggested that my current predicament might have been an opened up pinhole caused by the compression. Updated Review: Had the water shutoff by the water company and called back to get someone in right after the water shutoff in the AM. Larry and Cole came to the job. Larry took a look at my issue and pointed out the shark bite fittings. There were 2 valves that were after the main valve that Larry claimed needed to be removed because of issues with the length of pipe. I asked for just the main valve to be replaced. He said he couldn’t because there wasn’t enough room. As he took a look at the system, he also mentioned they only do work on gas boilers which Chris had never mentioned during our initial consult. Given the complaints about the shark bites, I assumed they would be soldering all the new piping. As they started the work, I notice they were use Pro Press fittings and mentioned that I was apprehensive about them because of the electrical issues. Larry’s response was that no one soldered any more and the reason he had a torch in his trunk was just to removed old piping. As they finished I mentioned my concerns with how they had replaced the grounds on the system. Larry’s initial response was that it was an electrical issue that he had nothing to do with. When I started explaining the issues with corrosion and how it was placed on the fittings to explain my concerns, his response was that they never had problems with them. With only a year long warranty offered after they finished the job, it became clear they were doing the quick and easy option to get out of the job as quickly as possible. They spent 45 minutes on the work itself and some admin time. The total came out to over $1300 with a base price being reduced from a $548 per fitting number. If the quality of the work and guarantee wasn’t what it was(only 1 year, lack of cleaning corrosion, ProPress to get in and out as quickly as possible) I wouldn’t be complaining. I reached out to Chris to discuss my concerns. Chris called and didn’t understand my complaints. My electrician pointed out where their work resulted in it being against code. I faced the same issue later in the evening. Overall super disappointed having started with high hopes. Original Review: Had some intermittent issues with a boiler and called in the AM when Chris took the call just prior to opening. He had me send him pictures and video over email. Later that afternoon I called back and he returned the call, taking the time to discuss issues, suggest electricians that would retry be able to help, and get me started on making calls to the water company to get the main water line shutoff for the potential repair. Chris mentioned his disdain for the shark bite fittings that looked like a botched repair and I was comforted his guys would come out to solder on a solid connection. He was the only person I called who I felt like would come out if it was a true emergency. And pricing was fair for the trip out. To send out someone to the call would be $60. The two other places who offered help were asking for $200 as an initial fee with the same Monday timeline after a Friday call.
It is such a relief in this day and age to have a reliable and trustworthy plumbing company that you can call without hesitation. The quality of the work they do is top notch and they stand behind it. They are an unmatched value in the business. You can see why they’ve been in business for over 100 years.
Job done ontime and as expected. It is worth being a contract holder for quick and efficient service.
Larry was professional, explained exactly what he will be doing, and completed it in a timely manner.
Im happily making a revision to my earlier review, which was also 5 stars. In the past I used them for a small job which I was happy with. I needed them again last week, I thought I had a leak in a baseboard pipe, but I was incorrect, it was much simpler. Chris came with a helper , diagnosed the issue (caulking), and charged me the service call. In addition to their skill, more importantly they have integrity. Something we need more of in this world. Im convinced, this is the place to use if you need plumbing.
